Sandra Remme
My formal creative journey began as an art student in Toronto, having studied Fine Art at Humber College, Ontario College of Art, York University and courses at other smaller schools. In those early years, I was unsure where I belonged and having no clear path to follow, I had a variety of non art and some art related jobs.
At the age of 31, I got married and had a daughter. With a new sense of belonging and identity as a mother and wife, my primary focus became my family while managing to keep my creative spirit alive.
My career has taken me through creative expressions that include graphic design, dress and costume design, set design, interior design, staging, sculpture, fine art painting, Murals and teaching. I did settle into a long career as a decorative painter (Murals, trompe l’oeil, decorative finished on furniture and faux finishes) working with some of Toronto’s top interior designers.
Then my daughter grew up. Trends changed and work became more scarce.
I took this opportunity to paint canvasses which i’d previously had little time for. I started dividing my time between Mexico, Canada and the U.S.
Parallel and woven together with my creative journey has been my spiritual journey. My spiritual journey has largely been about knowing and accepting my my place in this world as an artist and energy worker. Reiki became a major influence on my path and eventually I was called to become a Reiki Master. Then I discovered Soul Art, a beautiful marriage of engaging energy work with visual expression.
My canvasses reflect this spiritual element, whether it be inspired by nature – the outer world – or an expression of my inner world. Through my art, Reiki and Soul Art I have found my joy, my heart and peace. My art is a reflection of my ever flowing and changing journey.
