BIO – I paint in oils from my home in Utterson, Ontario.
Born and raised in Muskoka, my heart is here; I have a great love for this land of ours. From a young age I dabbled in watercolour, pen and ink and always sketching along the way. I am basically self-taught, having taken courses here and there from local Muskoka artists learning techniques and applying them. Deciding to try oils I sought out local artist Gwendolyn Sitler Boyes, who taught out of her home. I immediately fell in love with this medium. The movement and flow captivated me. I joined MAC (Muskoka Arts & Crafts) and exhibited in the annual members shows. A great lover of the outdoors has me finding new subjects to paint almost daily. I continue to grow and explore in my subject matter and my approach to each piece. The backroads and landscapes in and around Muskoka can take your breath away. I am a realism oil painter of landscapes and objects. I will often zero in on a focal point from a landscape to paint. Whether I’m hiking, riding my bike, snow shoeing or driving, I am always looking for and finding subjects that catch my eye. I will take a photograph and often paint from these revisiting the subject sight for clarity.
ARTIST STAIEMENT –
I am fortunate to live in Muskoka where the landscape never stops offering up subjects to paint. “With the stroke of my brush, I am meditating and lost in that world for hours” ~ libby
