Carolyn Grand – artist

I have always had the creative spirit, thus have tried my hand at everything: Poetry, illustration, costumes, sculpture, screen printing, quilts, beading, baskets… The desire to create is always there. Although I have a Bachelor of Science degree, I pursued Art and Design before I graduated from the University of Minnesota. Yet it took me until my 30s to really begin my journey into painting. I started with watercolour and branched out into oils, gouache, acrylic and pastels over the years.

Having children made me realize there is nothing so miraculous or beautiful. They are always learning, joyful in discovery. I wanted to stop time in its tracks and show those moments of joy, freedom, learning, and contemplation.

I am a dual citizen, living and painting near the shores of Lake Muskoka, Minnetonka, the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic, I never tire of the beauty of water and people enjoying it.

While I paint everything from still-life and landscape to portraits, my favourite images are of children.

I am a member of the Ontario Colour and Form Society, the Heliconian Society – Visual Arts, Bonita Springs Art Society, Huntsville Art Society and past member of the Toronto Watercolour Society, my work has been seen in shows in Toronto, Muskoka, Bonita Springs and Naples, Florida. Most recently my work was included in the Limberlost Artists Show near Huntsville.
