Open call: Original Canadian art fair at the Huntsville Fall Fair (Sept 21 deadline)

Exhibit your work at the Huntsville Fall Fair, September 22, 23 & 24, 2023.

The purpose of fall fairs was to promote agriculture and the arts. As European settlers arrived, they brought with them their culture and skills. As early as 1879, art was exhibited at a Canadian fall fair. In 1913, even members of the Group of Seven were commissioned to design posters for Canada’s largest fall fair, the CNE.

This year, junior, intermediate (grade 9 to age 18), and adult (19+) artists are invited to participate and contribute to this long tradition by exhibiting at the Huntsville Fall Fair, which was established in 1882.

The categories of competition are:
A1-1 pastel art of your choice
A1-2 pencil sketch of your choice
A1-3 watercolour of your choice
A1-4 original computer generated art of your choice
A1-5 wildlife scene
A1-6 architecture (focus of drawing must be a building)
A1-7 any painting or drawing not mentioned above
A1-8 acrylic painting of your choice

All entries must be delivered to the fair by 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023. All entries must have firm backing and a means of hanging: wire, hook, etc. Canvas by itself is not a means of hanging.

Prize money: 1st – $3.00, 2nd – $2.00, 3rd – $1.00

The Huntsville Art Society has generously offered memberships to the first-prize winners of the intermediate and adult divisions. Membership to HAS comes with many advantages that are outlined here.
