Margot Snow
I am a Canadian artist with works exhibited in both private and corporate collections across North America and parts of Europe. Born and educated in Montreal, Quebec, I have made Muskoka, Ontario my home since 2003. Educated at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the University of Guelph in Fine Arts, I concentrated on watercolours since 1979 and began teaching watercolour painting in 1988 when I retired from teaching for the public school board.
I am constantly exploring new and interesting variations of surfaces and textures to use with watercolours. Hence you will see my work on paper, canvas, birch board, as watercolour egg tempera, collage and mono printing.
Traditional oils dominate my landscape paintings – initially, I work quickly, trying to keep up with my senses and the moment, the emotions I want to portray. It is through colour and composition that I project my feelings onto my canvas. Colour is the essence of my work – it’s what’s uppermost in my mind when I choose a subject and is what challenges and interests me most. Colour can change a viewer’s mood, it can stimulate a feeling of peacefulness and well- being and it can awaken a soul.
