With the help of eight, two hour classes, in drawing, watercolour, pastels and acrylic I started my journey into the world of portraits in October of 2012.
That winter I sat down with a book and taught myself how to draw.
I still use the techniques that I learned from that book and have stretched my boundaries to were I am today.
The following year I took another eight, two hour classes this time further exploring other mediums but was still enthralled with portraiture. And so I continued in this field.
Last year I took two workshops from Janine Marson one in watercolour and one in charcoal as I needed to start colouring my portraits, and did not know how to mix colours.
The next spring I started to take lessons from Carol Rudderham in acrylic. I am working on landscapes and while it is difficult to let go of the precision needed to create a portrait that actually looks like the person you are drawing, I am starting to loosen up.
The painting skills I am learning from Carole I hope to one day use in my portraits.
For the almost six years that I have been on this journey, books have been my mainstay. Now with art classes I am stretching my out to unexplored arenas.
