SUMMARY:Driftwood Sculpture Workshop with Jerry Friedman
DESCRIPTION:Discover the creative world of driftwood sculpture. Bring one of your own pieces or select one from my collection (or both). We will explore the process of driftwood sculpture from the selection of your piece\, to cleaning\, sanding\, and to ultimate display. \nDriftwood sculpture was developed by the First Nations on the Pacific West Coast. The driftwood we find in our lakes has been in the water and sand for tens or hundreds of years and is covered in silt and algae. It has often been discoloured by the iron in the water. It is only with cleaning and sanding that the wood begins to reveal its underlying texture and grain. A natural oil finish further highlights the dramatic beauty of the wood. \nYou will work on your pieces in the workshop and learn additional skills that will be helpful in working on sculptures in the future. You also will be provided resource material for further learning and skill development. \nFor more information on my work visit my website : https://artistsofthelimberlost.ca/studios/jerry-friedman-driftwood-sculpture/ \nDate: July 6\, 2024\, 2-4 p.m.\nCost: $40 adults\, $20 teens\nLocation: My workshop on 1409 Billie Bear Road is an easy 25 minute drive east of Huntsville. \nTo register\, email jerryfriedman@rogers.com or call 416-789-1459.

SUMMARY:Views from the Edge of the Earth: a presentation by Wendie Donabie
DESCRIPTION:Author/artist Wendie Donabie presents a new nature-inspired book\n\n\nOn Tuesday\, June 25\, at 2 p.m.\, meet author/artist Wendie Donabie in the Social Room at The Tom condos at Campus Trails (23 Campus Trail\, Huntsville). Wendie will share her journey to the publication of her nature-inspired book\, Views from the Edge of the Earth. Inspired by her love of the natural world\, the poet combined 76 images of her paintings and photographs along with 78 poetic reflections to create her book.\n\nViews from the Edge of the Earth is a call to action for everyday people. Her book will be available to purchase.\n\n“We live in a world of incredible beauty\, remarkable in its biodiversity from microscopic to gigantic life. Yet\, we’re killing our planet with the waste and harm we’ve done — habitat lost\, and species gone or fading fast. In Views from the Edge of the Earth\, Wendie share the beauty\, the joy and\, at times\, the pain Wendie experiences in living every day. Written in a simple\, straightforward style\, the collection begins with a dire vision but ends with a message of hope. Some entries may cause you to think differently\, others may simply bring a smile to your face.” (An excerpt from the Introduction to Views from the Edge of the Earth.)\n\nYou can follow Wendie’s creative journey on www.WendieDonabie.com\, www.WendieDonabie.ca\, Facebook\, and Instagram.
