Sue Florian
Sue is a local visual artist, newly located in Bracebridge, Ontario. After a successful career as a professional set decorator and buyer for the advertising and entertainment industries, she comes to her creative life as an artist with a myriad of influences and talents. Drawn to the beauty and calm of our Canadian spaces, she prefers those intimate, quiet and protected areas in the landscape to paint and capture. She loves being in nature’s light, living with its abundant colour, and its importance in our lives and our stewardship of it. True to her photographic roots, so embedded in her artistic psyche, Sue uses her camera to capture light and references for her work in addition to working from life. Her realistic drawing style emphasizes smooth rendering with texture and precise line, habits grounded in classical formulae and layering techniques from studies in her early years.
Sue is also co-founder of “Artists at the Gibson” Painting Group (2008), still thriving today with close to 100 members. The group offers workshops with well-known Canadian artists, liaisons with the resident artist, at the Gibson Centre for Arts & Culture, Alliston, Ontario & meets there every Tuesday and Wednesday.
