Norma Van Alstine

I have enjoyed doing photography over the past several years and am self taught. Algonquin Park and Muskoka have some of my most favourite places to photograph landscapes and wildlife. Another favourite place for me to do photography is at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta where there are wild horses. In 2021, my wild horse photographs and articles were featured in Our Canada magazine and in Reader’s Digest International.

Within the last couple of years, I began taking painting lessons as this was a passion that I really wanted to “tap” into. I drew upon my photographs as reference material and began painting. It was as though I fell in love with painting as much as I did doing photography.

For me, each photograph and painting represents a personal expression of very special places. I love working with my palette to create colours, light and textures. With each stroke of the brush I am brought back to the time when I was at that very place. This sense of presence is what I hope to instill when a person looks at one of my photographs or paintings.
